Rhayader Bank One Pound Note (1811) from our Museum collection
At this time it was quite common for firms of solicitors to issue bank notes in their own name, also using the name of a market town with a good business reputation. This Rhayader note was issued by Thomas Hampton & Edward Hooper, who ceased trading in the economic slump immediately after The Battle Of Waterloo.
