Under the Shadow of the Dam Photo Gallery

Commemorating the opening of the dams 110 years on, this exhibition looks at life in the valley during the time of their construction, when the workers' village consisted of no more than wooden huts. When visiting the Elan valley now you would hardly believe that a village which housed hundreds of workmen could have existed there, but at one time it was replete with a school, a canteen, its own hospital and modern, comfortable housing; a 'model village'. Under the Shadow of the Dam is the first in a series of exhibitions at Rhayader Museum and Gallery examining the Elan Valley's history and envisioning its future.
